Fer crying out loud! We didn’t budget for travel. Well, we didn’t really forget about it entirely. We did budget $100 per month for “fun.” So we have that. And that’s not nothing…
When I posted our budget for the year, one reader asked about it. She probably knows that we’ve traveled to Greece, Spain, other parts of Europe and South America, and that we want to continue traveling. We really consider ourselves travelers even though we haven’t left the country since Coraline was born. And, in fact, we’ve spent a lot of our “vacations” traveling from Minnesota to Washington to visit the family. We figured now that we live in Washington we can start spending our vacations traveling to distant lands. But we won’t be going to distant lands this year.
Actually there’s a lot of Washington and Oregon that I’ve never seen. I’ve never been to Olympic National Park and I only stopped by Crater Lake once, briefly, because I wasn’t allowed to let my dog out of the car. So we’re really planning to use that $100 to go on short trips. It’ll be enough for a tank or two of gas and a campsite for one night.
Hopefully, after the year is over (and especially if we continue in our mission to spend less and save more) we’ll have some money saved up for when the kids are older and can appreciate traveling a little more than they do now.
